Iris, First of all how were you diagnosed with auditory processing disorder? You should have a full evaluation by an au***logist to confirm this diagnosis and come up with a remediation plan. The au***logist will want to review the results of your psych eval and your speech eval. If you are in school, the school might be the first place to request this evaluation. And yes, there are devices which will let you hear the main s****** more clearly (with no hearing loss an edulink by Phonak is one example of an ear level FM system which changes the speech to noise ratio, so that the teacher's voice appears enhanced in comparison to the background noise or one of the newer small hearing aids with noise suppression might be helpful as well). But without the complete eval no one can say what will work for you. Good luck. Dr. Herzfeld

There are many things that can cause pulsatile tinnitus. The scan help the ENT diagnose the cause of the tinnitus. The tinnitus specialist, if this is an audiologist, will help you cope with the tinnitus. It is unfortunate that you must wait so long for the scan and to see the specialist. The dizziness may or may not be related to the tinnitus. Be sure to tell your ENT about this.

Back in 1980 I had an impacted wisdom tooth pulled on the right side of my mouth. A couple of weeks later I started to hear noises in my ear, like someone was typing. It was not constant but came when an external noise or vibration happened, like a car or truck passed the house. I went to Hershey Medical Center, John Hopkins in Baltimore, and even had a cat scan done to see if I had a tumor. Nothing!! For the past ten years the noise has changed to starting out as a typing sound and ending as a blaring noise. I have it on for 20 seconds and then it is quiet for 20 seconds. Due to this, I do not get a good nights sleep, ever. I have even tried sleeping pills, but the noise will wake me out of a sound sleep even with ear plugs in each ear. I was wondering if a nerve might have been damaged when that tooth was taken out, but every doctor doesn't seem to think that is possible. I would really appreciate some feedback to my condition, or if you have ever heard of this before. It gets worse when I am nervous about something, also. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Ruth

This is a question for your ENT physician. I'm an audiologist and not a physician. Sorry I couldn't help.

Mary Jo,

Here are the answers:
1. -100 to +100 daPa is within normal limits for tympanometry.
2. If February was the 1st known infection, then tubes would most likely not have been considered at that time.
3. Yes, any type of hearing loss can impact speech and language development.
4. If she has fluid, then the tubes will clear the fluid and hearing will improve. If the fluid and any hearing loss from it was affecting speech development then yes, tubes should help.

I hope this has helped.

If this feeling doesn't go away by Monday, you should call your ENT physician and explain the problem. The tubes could be blocked.

Vanity and believing that wearing a hearing aid makes them look old. There are articles about this on the internet. Try a Google search.
